According to mythology at Avantikapuri Dham, a Yagya was organized there by King Parikshit’s son Janmejaya to kill all the snakes of the planet. There is a lake near this temple which is very ancient. Devotees fulfill their wishes by taking bath in this lake, hence this place has religious importance for Hindu community.
According to mythological books, this site is known from the time of Mahabharata. The lake located at this place was in the form of a fire altar (Havan Kund) in ancient times, in which Yagya was performed. There is also a belief that there is a 3 storied temple under the temple ground, which is about 1000 years old. During the mining of the temple, many ancient war equipments and fragmented idols were found here.
Tourism development works have been done with a view to increase the number of tourists visiting Avantikapuri Dham.
